An online survey was created using the free survey service Polldaddy. The goal of conducting the survey and interviews was to elicit insight into practitioners’ interaction with tools during key stages of various creative processes. A secondary goal of the survey was to screen and recruit potential interview participants.

Additional goals of the survey included:

•     Generate interest in the project by allowing as many people as possible to participate. Invitations to participate in the survey were sent on an individual basis, as well as via public posts on social media. In some cases the survey acted as a first point of contact for potential participants.

•     Gather relevant information about potential interview subjects to further inform interview questions and structure.

•     Gather data to supplement the thematic analysis of literature and interviews. The online survey was able to generate a larger amount of shallow data that could be used to support or augment deeper data from other sources.
