REQUIREMENTS GATHERING

Requirements were generated in order to inform the design of potential solutions as well as a means of possibly validating the themes identified during previous stages of the project. The requirements generation also provided a potential benchmark for the design to be evaluated against.

TECHNOLOGY REVIEW

A review of potentially useful digital devices, available technology, and technology in development, was conducted in order to explore possible solutions based on existing and future technologies. The review was conducted throughout the project and while informed by the other project stages, it was not necessarily dependent on them.

The identified technology/devices were then evaluated for potential use in a solution, based on the requirements. The technology review also served as a source of information and inspiration as to what was currently possible and what might be in the future (based on patents filed for technology not yet available).

DESIGN

During the previous stages of this project the research indicated that a solution that addressed most of the relevant issues might be possible. However, any such solution would require a large amount of development time, considerably more focused research, and would require the involvement of additional expertise and personnel. Therefore the design stage needed to focus on a narrower set of issues and requirements.

The intention of the system design was to investigate the possibility of meeting the requirements generated, through the design of a system using a combination of analogue tools and digital tools and systems. Furthermore, a proof-of-concept design would allow for testing the appropriateness and validity of the requirements.
